In this article you will find information about how a family photo shoot is conducted. I'll give you tips on how to prepare for your family photo shoot so that everything goes as well as possible.

Why a family photo shoot

You will get photos of all of you, the children themselves or individual parents with their children.

Family photos can also be combined with a specific activity – kite flying in autumn, gardening in spring, a family trip in summer, sledging in winter.

Where I take family photos

I'm from Znojmo, so I mostly shoot in South Moravia and Vysočina.

I mostly photograph families with children in nature – in the woods, in a park, by a pond or on a playground. Another option is shooting in the city.

Here are some tips on where you can have your photo taken with children. Of course, if you have another favourite place where you like to have your picture taken, then that's just fine and I'll be happy to accommodate you.

The following tips are specific to Znojmo, but can also be used as inspiration for photography outside Znojmo.

Photography in the park

There are several parks in Znojmo. For example, there is a small playground in Jubilee Park. The same in the Town Forest.

I also like to take pictures in Gránice. The local Natural City Park Gránice offers a lot of space and possibilities for family photography. It is more suitable for smaller children.

Shooting in the city

The historic centre of Znojmo is suitable for taking photos with both small and bigger children. Of course also for couple or individual portrait photography.

Photo shoot at the playground

Because of the space and possibilities, I mostly shoot in the Children's Amusement Park Chvalovice. Or on the Chvalovice Dragon Trail.

Photography in nature

The Podyjí National Park is perfect for a family photo shoot in the countryside around Znojmo. There are also plenty of possibilities at the Vranov Dam.

How to prepare for a family photo shoot

Family photo shoot style

It's good to think about the style of the resulting photos. What would you like in the result. Everything from the location, pre-season choice to the outfit depends on that.

Suitable time to take photos

The choice of time is similar for family photoshoots as it is for trips. It is possible to use the city more, even if the weather is not the best. In the countryside it's different. Muddy shoes or dirty clothes can be retouched, but it's good to keep in mind that slushy weather brings some limitations for certain types of shoots.

Of course there can be nice photos even in this weather. But you probably won't be completely satisfied if you imagined sunny autumn photos and instead you see mostly fog and that you were cold during the photo shoot.

Simplicity and convenience

This applies especially to clothing. You should feel good, everything should look natural. I also recommend limiting bold patterns, unless that is the intention. If it's a family shoot, also expect to be taking the kids in your arms or bending down to them. Clothing should be appropriate for this as well.

Skin and photography

Skin benefits from drinking water a few days before the shoot. On the other hand, sunbathing before a shoot causes redness of the skin.
